1984 : Working aboard the boats of the Lachance and Dufour families, naturalists Robert Michaud and Daniel Lefebvre became fascinated by whales and their environment. From their first encounters, a project was born: they planned to raise awareness about whales and work towards their protection through scientific research and conservation education. 1985 : The following year a team of 10 naturalists, researchers and volunteers united by a common goal were working hard to make the dream a reality. GREMM was founded. 1999 : Nearly 15 years after its founding, GREMM has succeeded in carrying its project to term. What makes it unique is the intimate association between research and education : a productive alliance. The ranks of GREMM have been filled by about 300 member/sponsors, 9 active members, some 10 permanent employees and approximately 30 summer employees, including naturalists, researchers, volunteers, trainees, secretaries, a gift shop manager, reception and gift shop employees and a caretaker. The whole team strives to carry on the dream in the interpretation centres and on the research boats. Board of directors
