Over the years, cetacean research has revealed fascinating animal behaviour, often more fantastic than the stories of myths and legends. Knowledge gained through this work will help us to make enlightened decisions for a more harmonious coexistence with the whales.

GREMM has been pursuing this quest for new knowledge of the whales of the St. Lawrence since 1985:

GREMM is associated with several renowned partners who help make these projects a reality:

  • Environment Canada
  • Fondation de la faune du Québec
  • World Wildlife Fund Canada
  • Maurice Lamontagne Institute
  • St. Lawrence National Institute of Ecotoxicology
  • Mingan Island Cetacean Study
  • ministère de l'Environnement et de la Faune du Québec
  • Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada
  • Parks Canada
  • Saguenay—St. Lawrence Marine Park
  • Canadian Wildlife Service
  • McMaster University
  • University of Connecticut
  • Croisières Essipit
  • Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society
  • Park Foundation
  • IFAW
  • Trent University
  • Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute

By sponsoring a fin whale, adopting a beluga or purchasing articles from our gift shop, you too can collaborate with GREMM on different research programs.

A research platform at sea

Croisières AML Cruises boats provide a platform for GREMM researchers who photograph the fin whales of the St. Lawrence Estuary in order to study their movements and associations.
